This is one of our most elegant and popular Staunton style chess sets. It features a 14.75 inch walnut board. Walnut is a hard wood which is highly desired for its rich, dark hues. This chess set is solid walnut which promises premium quality, luxury and durability The kari and sheesham wood chessmen are hand polished and hand carved pieces with a 3 inch king. The fine craftsmanship of this chess set will be enjoyed for generations. Modern chess was invented in Europe, based on an Arabic game (Shatranj) that was based on an Indian game (Chaturanga). During the Middle Ages it spread across Europe and evolved into the game we know and love today. Chess is a game of infinite variations and possibly the most challenging strategy game ever created, it has lasted through the centuries and is played in every corner of the world.
