The typical Dunkelgrau RAL 7021 (dark gray) camouflage entered service in the late 1930s and was the standard scheme for German armored vehicles during the early years of World War II. It became common not only in the Wehrmacht, but on virtually all German military vehicles of the time. Dunkelgrau was undoubtedly one of the longest-used paint schemes in the early stages of the conflict, used by a large number of units and applied to a multitude of different vehicles. It is characterized by a uniform shade of Dunkelgrau, designed to blend in with urban and industrial environments, as well as to facilitate mass production. Among the best-known vehicles that used this camouflage are the Panzer I, II, III, and IV tanks; the early version of the Tiger I; the Sd.Kfz. 222 and 223 reconnaissance vehicles; the Sd.Kfz. 251 half-tracks; self-propelled guns such as the StuG III; and many other armored and soft skin vehicles used by German forces in Poland, France, and the early stages of the Eastern Front. Although Dunkelgrau was the predominant color, combinations with other shades were also used to adapt to different operational environments, for example Dunkelbraun RAL 7017 (dark brown), Grün RAL 6002 (green), Olivgrün RAL 6003 (olive green), and Sandgrau RAL 7027 (sand gray) were patterns were added, and white paint for snowy environments.

Most of the techniques and effects described are optional, and it is up to you to decide whether to apply them or not. If you want to improve your technique, we recommend that you try to apply them all. To obtain different levels of wear, simply adjust the intensity of the various effects to your liking.
